We Are Only Half Awake

"Compared to what we ought to be, we are only half awake. We are making use of only a small part of our physical and mental resources. Stating the thing broadly, the human individual thus lives far within his limits. He possesses powers of various sorts which he habitually fails to use."

- William James, Harvard Professor.

I came across this quote and I thought it was incredibly apt for the premise of this blog. When I read this quote, it really struck a chord. This statement is something that I inherently believe. I believe in all of us is untapped potential; but it's so easy for us to become lazy, complacent and tolerant of the status quo. I fervently believe that most people, unfortunately, do live far within their limits. But they shouldn't. Life is short and we're not going to live forever. It's not even a question of whether we should or we shouldn't, but whether we will or won't exercise our God-given potential and continually push our limits. Refuse to live within your limits.

However, it's one thing to have a great vision, but it's another thing to have execution.

This is what this blog is for. The whole theme of this blog is captured entirely in the name - Vigilant Pursuit. It's dedicated towards one's continuous journey, one's struggle to overcome adversity and ultimately one's pursuit of refinement, betterment, and dare I say it, greatness. But this pursuit, yours and mine, it's not going to be easy, hence the word, "vigilant". It means "ever awake, ever alert". We have to wake up. We can't afford to slack off; we can't afford to 'fall back asleep'. A pursuit requires alertness; if we don't plan to be alert, then we shouldn't be in the pursuit. Grab opportunity and harness it, or someone else will.

This blog is meant to help anyone and everyone committed to their own 'vigilant pursuit', to achieve your goals, dreams, aspirations and beyond. Obviously, you and I both know, things are easier said than done. And the last thing I want to be is a hypocrite (work in progress). But, hopefully, by constantly writing down ideas, tips and lessons learned to inspire and push you and I further, this content will really crystallize and cement in my brain and yours, and ultimately make us wake up.

And so, I raise you this glass, *raises imaginary glass of fancy wine* to give us a toast:

To all our vigilant pursuits. *chink!*

Cheers,

Jake
